Relief work Demystified

“Its not as cozy as you think neither is it as bad as you thought”, that’s how I would sum up the humanitarian work.

Many people will ask you on how you got to join the humanitarian work and how lucky you are as a person.  Both questions are valid in their own sense. First humanitarian work is just like any other work and you definitely join just the way you would join banking or salesmanship or any other profession. It doesn’t have a special way of joining it. Secondly it has nothing to do with luck. It is basic hard work as well. No one will find you if you are not aggressive and hardworking to walk (or rather out it ‘work’) your way in.

The saying ‘heart of a lion, eyes of an eagle, speed of a tiger, skin of a rhino and the soul of an angel ‘”, truly applies in relief work. Heart of a lion to go to places with the toughest living conditions, daring war fronts and surviving, blazing guns and flying missiles, the skin of a rhino to survive the flares of weather and also the biting negativity relief work can bring along due to expectations. This ensures you are not derailed by sideshows. The soul of an angel is to see the beneficiaries you are serving in a humane lens, empathize with them and go an extra mile to touch people’s lives.

Just a snapshot of the humanitarian and relief work is that it operates like a government, with budgets, HR sections, admin and finance, people dealing with food, water etc, so the notion that you’ve to do social work courses to join relief work is just another fallacy, you can join by your profession, including IT, doctors and the rest.
